Printmaking Studio

The aim of the printmaking studio is to teach printmaking, one of the three visual arts, both on a theoretical and practical level, in its three main forms: relief printing, intaglio printing and planographic printing.
The issue expands beyond the purely visual part, to include issues such as technique, methods and specialised knowledge. This knowledge will allow students to handle skillfully and with discipline tools and materials which are difficult to use (wood, copper, stone, etc.), but also to help them deal with known but also with unexpected factors that make an original creation, a work of art.
Using drawing and colour exercises, with or without an art model, as a starting point, students are introduced to printmaking techniques with the aim of producing the printing plate. After that, the printing processes lead to the formulation of a printmaking work, with all the elements that characterize it: drawing, synthesis, writing, style, hue, colour.
The studio experience aims at raising awareness as regards the Printmaking form, its characteristics and distinctive features that differentiate it from Painting and Sculpture. Through the teaching process its great expressive potential, completeness and powerful personality are established and cultivated, elements that make it a major art form, age-old, but at the same time so modern.
The studio is housed on the 1st floor of the building complex of the First University Hall of Residence in an area of 135 square metres. It has 50 work stations, as well as equipment for applying the techniques of woodcut, lithography and copperplate.
