Welcome to the Department of Fine Arts and Arts Sciences of the University of Ioannina.
The Department of Fine Arts and Art Sciences is the only department of the School of Fine Arts of the University of Ioannina. It is active since the academic year 2000-2001. Its goal is to cultivate and promote the Fine Arts and related research both theoretically and practically. It aims to provide students with the necessary background and skills to art practice to cultivate the debate, between Art, History of Art and Art Theory. The courses offered aim to stimulate artists to acquire theoretical knowledge and to stimulate art historians and theorists to gain a deep understanding of artistic practice. In short, to provide the students with the necessary means for their professional career. The Department intends to contribute to a general aesthetic education and to the local cultural life.
The Department of Fine Arts and Art Sciences provides excellent learning opportunities through specialized undergraduate programs and offers expertise in the fields of Fine Arts, History and Theory of Art, Painting and Sculpture including Printmaking, analogue and digital Photography, Computer Animation, Video and Multimedia. The courses offered aim to stimulate artists to acquire theoretical background and to stimulate art historians and theorists to gain a deep understanding of past and present artistic practice. The Department offers postgraduate courses and awards degrees up to a doctoral level. The Department of Fine Arts and Art Sciences fills a gap in Art Education in Greece, a country rich in cultural heritage and a challenging field in contemporary art.
